More details from petition creator

We Care was set up by the Express & Echo newspaper in Exeter. We pledged to campaign for improvements for carers.

Now, with involvement from carers, we have put together a manifesto.

Here is a condensed version of the manifesto. A full version is available on the Express & Echo website.

Please sign up and show your support.

1. Carers want recognition and to be consulted about decisions for the person they care for.

2. Carers want easily accessible, age-appropriate and timely information to help them with their role.

3. Carers want to be involved in the local implementation of the Government’s strategy Carers at the Heart of 21st-Century Families and Communities.

4. Carers want better training.

5. Carers want respite.

6. Carers want better transition from children’s to adult services.

7. Carers Allowance should be at least the minimum wage.

8. Carers want a benefit system that is not merely regarded as income replacement.

9. Carers want flexible working conditions.

10. Carers want the Carers Equal Opportunities Act implemented.

11. Young carers want recognition that caring does not just involve domestic duties.
