We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to prevail on the Civil Aviation Authority not to ignore the findings of its consultation with General Aviation on the mandatory imposition of Mode S equipment. Only 1% of those surveyed approved the mandatory imposition on all aircraft, yet this seems certain to go ahead. More details

Transponders enable Air Traffic Controllers to have more information about aircraft than a return on a radar screen. Transponders do this by transmitting from the aircraft. Mode S transponders identify the aircraft that is transmitting, enabling it to be traced and providing Controllers with information about aircraft type, speed and performance.
For most owners of light aircraft, fitting a Mode S transponder is an additional cost (between £700 and £3,000) without any benefit. The advantage is to airlines and other commercial operators, who won’t have to pay anything.
We request that the Prime Minister asks for a review of this by his Ministerial colleagues.
