We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Offer support to the post office network. More details
Submitted by Jonathan Sheppard – Deadline to sign up by: 14 June 2007 – Signatures: 486
On 14th December 2006 the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Alistair Darling made an announcement that some 2,500 rural post offices may close by 2009 as they are deemed to be unprofitable. We the undersigned call on the Government to do more to make the network of post office branches viable, by allowing them to further diversify in the field of financial services, and furthermore call on the Prime Minister to recognise the essential role they play in combating both financial and social exclusion, and therefore ask the Prime Minister to commit to offering support to the Post Office in the form of allowing it the commercial freedom to compete in the marketplace.
