Contrary to Commission Directive 2007/68/EC and Codex Standard for foods for special dietary use for persons intolerant to gluten Codex Stan 118-1979. "It can be concluded that certain ingredients or substances derived from those ingredients listed in Annex 111a to Directive 2000/13/EC are not likely, under specific circumstances, to cause adverse reactions in susceptible individuals" . 1. wheat-based glucose syrups including dextrose. 2. wheat based maltodextrins 3. glucose syrups based on barley 4. cereals used for making distillates or ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin for spirit drinks and other alcoholic beverages.
Cereals containing gluten (ie. wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, kamut, or there hybridised strains) and products thereof: should be listed in the allergen label as they CAN cause adverse reactions in susceptible individuals under NORMAL circumstances or use. This to included in foods beverages including alcoholic and others plus the pharmacutical industry this would save the valued resourses of the NHS and suffering of the individual.
