We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to protect traditional public houses (pubs) from unwarranted closure and insensitive changes. More details

In recognition of their significant value to local communities and tourism, and their heritage value, the Prime Minister is petitioned to ensure the following protection for public houses: (1) No closure or conversion of any long-established pub without an independent test of viability such as that recommended by CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale). (2) Separation of pubs from restaurants in planning law, so that planning permission is required for the conversion of a pub into a restaurant (following public consultation through appropriate consumer groups to establish a clear definition of each). (3) In long-established pubs, any significant changes to fixtures, fittings, room layout or style of decor to require planning consent within an agreed set of guidelines; there must be a presumption against any unsympathetic changes to pubs listed in CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
