Petition update, 02 May 2007

You recently signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "Stop the diversion of National Health Service monies to the private sector through the award of contracts to private companies to establish CATS centres (Clinical Treat and Assess Centres."

More details from petition creator

These centres are to be set up by private companies, under contract to the NHS, to meet government targets of Assessing patients within 18 weks of referral by a GP. The NHS is already under severe financial pressure and it does not make sense to use NHS cash to provide profits for private companies. There is evidence that Hospital Consultant vacancies are not being advertised, as the CATS centres will take work away from the hospitals, and continued employment for consultants will not be secure. THIS MUST BE STOPPED AND THE MONIES INVESTED IN HOSPITAL SERVICES
