Submitted by Simon Birkett of Campaign for Clean Air in London – Deadline to sign up by: 13 March 2008 – Signatures: 165
The Campaign for Clean Air in London has one aim which is to achieve urgently World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended standards of air quality throughout London.
Already the Campaign has received support from the Mayor of London and leading politicians of all four political parties as well as leading business and community organisations.
The Campaign wrote to the Prime Minister on 23 December 2006 inviting him to Pledge his personal support to this Campaign. As at the date of this petition an acknowledgement had been received but no reply.
This petition goes further and asks the Prime Minister to Pledge not just his personal support but the Government's full support to achieve urgently WHO recommended standards of air quality throughout London. In general, these standards have been due to be achieved by January 2010 since 1999 legislation.
For further details of the Campaign please see the "Air pollution" issues section of the BBC Action Network.
