If Conservation areas and locally listed buildings are not protected by Act of Parliament they are very vulnerable.

The Heritage of London Trust is trying to save the memorial clock to Minnie Lansbury in the Bow Road, and we were very upset thatClifton Lodge, 44 Clarence Avenue in Clapham could not have been saved from the buldozers when the land was developed Both these structures are locally listed, but not nationally listed. There are many thousands of locally listed structures all across the Country - they often encapuslate a particularly poignant or important part of the local heritage, and they are quite unprotected.

We strongly urge that locally listed buildings and monuments are protected in the same way that nationally listed buildings are protected. Please can they be given the same status as nationally listed buildings in the Heritage White Paper
