We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Change Statutory Redundancy Pay to be 4 WEEKS PAY FOR EACH FULL YEAR OF SERVICE REGARDLESS OF AGE - REAL PAY NO WEEKLY CAP or MAXIMUM CAP AND THAT IN ALL REDUNDANCY SITUATIONS VOLUNTARY REDUNDANCIES ARE SOUGHT AND AGREED TO BEFORE MAKING COMPULSORY REDUNDANCIES. Compulsory redundancies need to be avoided by using voluntary redundancy as a statutory requirement and statutory compensation needs to properly reward all workers for their commitment to their employer regardless of age. Current policy makes it easier for multinationals to sack workers in Britain than other parts of Europe. When considered against huge ‘City bonuses’ and ‘golden goodbyes’ for Directors, 4 weeks redundancy pay for each year worked is a modest request.
