We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to bring forward legislation requiring all Members of the Houses of Parliament to declare in the Register of Members' interests whether they are in receipt of any pension or other benefits or emoluments payable by the European Union, and also to declare this interest when they speak - in the House in which they sit - on any matter pertaining to the European Union. It is the case that a number of former EU Commissioners and other former EU employees who are now Members of the House of Commons or House of Lords receive financial benefits, including pensions, from the European Union.
These Members of Parliament are not required to declare these financial benefits in the Register of Members' Interests, nor when speaking in Parliament on matters relevant to the European Union.
Members of Parliament with financial interests or benefits in other activities (such as directorships or shareholdings) are required to declare them in the Register and when speaking to Parliament and the same should apply to those with interests or benefits derived from the EU.
This measure if enacted will help to restore trust in government.
