For me, the essence of being British is to have freedom of speech without fear. This does not mean hate speech - I would never vindicate that. But if I want to discuss and critique the values of Islam or Christianity or Judaism or communism or nationalism I should be able to do so without fear of persecution, prosecution or vilification.
